Scaffolding Sagrada Família
Scaffolding Sagrada Família
Most contractors hope their projects don't run behind schedule.
Then there's Sagrada Família.
Construction on Barcelona's famous basilica began in 1882.
More than 140 years later, workers are still building it.
Generations of architects, engineers, stoneworkers, sculptors, craftsmen, and construction crews have worked on the structure. Technology has changed dramatically. Construction methods have changed. Equipment has changed.
The building has continue

Scaffolding Notre-Dame
Scaffolding Notre-Dame
On April 15, 2019, people around the world watched as flames engulfed Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris.

Centuries-old timber framing was destroyed.
Stone vaults were damaged.
And firefighters fought desperately to save one of the world's most recognizable historic buildings.

Scaffolding Ancient Castles
Scaffolding Ancient Castles
Castles were designed with one very specific goal in mind.
Make them difficult to access.
Build the walls high.
Put them on steep hills.
Add towers.
Add cliffs.

Several hundred years later, it's slightly inconvenient for the people trying to scaffold them.
Welcome back to Scaffolding Around the World.
This time, we're tackling

Scaffolding Massive Bridges
Scaffolding Massive Bridges
Sometimes the work you need to reach isn't 300 feet above the ground.
It's 300 feet above water, traffic, or absolutely nothing.
Welcome to bridge scaffolding.
Bridges present some of the most unusual access challenges in construction. Unlike a building, where much of the work is accessible from the ground or from relatively predictable elevations, the areas requiring maintenance on a bridge may be underneath the structure, between massive structural members, above ac

Scaffolding Giant Statues
Scaffolding Giant Statues
Most scaffolding projects begin with a building.
Buildings are usually somewhat cooperative.
They have walls.
Corners.
Floors.
Rooflines.
Relatively predictable shapes.
Then someone asks you to scaffold a 200-foot person.
Suddenly things get interesting.
Around the world, enormous statues rise above cities, mountains, temples, and monuments. Some are made from stone. Others from concrete, copper, bronze, or steel. Many require regular inspection, cleaning, restoration,
